Food which keep lungs healthy


Turmeric:
Turmeric is popular for its anti-inflammatory properties and anti-septic properties. Turmeric consist of antioxidants help reducing inflammation and improve in breathing by keeping the respiratory tract clean. Turmeric is also a natural anti-viral, which helps ward off viral infections affecting the lungs and keeps the body healthy.


Basil:
Basil leaves can protect the lungs against air pollution. Apart from this, basil can absorb the dust in the air. According to health experts, consuming a small amount of Basil leaf juice daily removes respiratory pollutants from the body. Basil leaves are rich in antioxidants. And this anti-oxidant is very effective in lung protection. Basil can absorb dust in the air. So drink basil juice or boil these leaves in water to remove respiratory pollutants. Lungs will be fine.


Black cumin and amla:
Black cumin works good to keep the lungs healthy. Its anti-oxidants help prevent airway inflammation. Eating 1/2 teaspoon of Black cumin powder mixed with one teaspoon of honey every day will keep the lungs healthy. There is no alternative of vitamin C rich foods. This vitamin prevents lung inflammation. Helps providing oxygen to the respiratory system and destroys respiratory tract germs. Lemon, Amla contains a lot of vitamin C.


Apple:
Apple peels contain an antioxidant called quercetin, which helps reduce inflammation in the lungs and treat lung diseases like COPD. Fruits like apples, bananas help prevent lung function decline. This food is very beneficial for those who have the habit of smoking.


Beet:
Beets or brightly coloured grains are rich in dietary nitrates. When they are consumed, the body converts these nitrates into nitric oxide, which helps relax blood vessels. Increases oxygen flow in blood vessels, also lowers blood pressure. And all of these help improve lung function. Beetroot has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.


Green leafy vegetables:
Spinach, collard greens or similar green vegetables contain multiple antioxidants. Vitamin C and carotenoids are present here. They help fight inflammation. Experts say that carotenoid compounds reduce the risk of cancer.




Exercises to keep lungs healthy


Regular breathing exercises keep the lungs healthy. Breathing exercises are especially beneficial to improve lung function in patients with asthma or chronic bronchitis. It also relaxes or reduces stress. Check out some of these exercises:


4-7-8 Relaxing Breathing:
Sit comfortably with your back straight. Exhale all the air from your lungs by making a 'hiss' sound. Now close your eyes and take deep breaths silently counting from 1 to 4 through your nose. Hold it in, count to 7 in your mind. Now round the lips and again 'hiss' and let out all the air and count till day 8. Breathe like this four times in succession after resting for a few seconds. It is good to do this exercise 2 times a day. It increases lung function and reduces mental stress. Sleep is also good.


Breathing exercise:
In this exercise, the breathing time should be gradually slowed down. Sit with a straight spine. Keep your eyes shut and take some deep breaths. Gradually its speed will decrease. Count to one while exhaling first, then two, and so on until five. Then start over with a fresh one. Do this exercise for 10 minutes a day. It is a form of meditation. It awakens the brain and increases concentration. Reduces stress.


Bellows breathing:
This is an exercise of frequent breathing through the nose with the mouth closed. Try breathing in and out three times per second. The time of inhalation and exhalation will be equal. It will exercise the chest and thoracic muscles quickly. Then breathe normally for a while. Not more than 15 seconds. It is a technique of yoga. It relieves fatigue and increases motivation and enthusiasm.


Apart from this we should give importance to a few other things. These are-


Quit smoking:
Health experts have repeatedly said that those who smoke excessively are at the highest risk of contracting the corona virus. Because the lungs are damaged the most as a result of smoking. Nicotine causes the alveoli in the lungs to gradually close. Decreased immunity. As a result, various diseases including cancer can occur. So quit smoking immediately to take care of lungs.


Adequate Rest:
Apart from following all these rules above, one should also pay special attention to resting one's body. Six to eight hours of sleep every day is very important to take care of lung and overall health.
