Frito pie is a Tex-Mex casserole dish that consists of Fritos corn chips, chili, cheese, and other ingredients, layered in a baking dish and baked until the cheese is melted and bubbly. The origins of Frito pie are not clear, but it's believed to have originated in Texas in the 1930s or 1940s and became popular as a way to use up leftover chili and stretch limited food resources.

Frito pie is often associated with Tex-Mex cuisine, which combines traditional Mexican dishes with American and Southern flavors and ingredients. Over the years, Frito pie has become a staple dish in American comfort food, and it's loved for its simplicity, versatility, and delicious taste. Nowadays, Frito pie is a popular dish in many parts of the country and is often served at tailgates, potlucks, and family gatherings.


Frito Pie Recipe


Ingredients:

.6-8 ounces of Fritos corn chips

.1 pound of ground beef or ground turkey

.1 medium onion, diced
.1 green bell pepper, diced

.2 cloves of garlic, minced

.1 (14.5 oz) can of diced tomatoes

.1 (10 oz) can of tomato sauce

.1 (10 oz) can of red enchilada sauce

.1 teaspoon chili powder

.1 teaspoon cumin

.1/2 teaspoon salt

.1/4 teaspoon black pepper

. 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese

.Optional toppings: diced avocado, diced jalapeno, chopped cilantro, sour cream

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey, onion, green pepper, and garlic. Drain excess grease.

3. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, enchilada sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine.

4. Spread a layer of Fritos on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

5. Pour half of the meat mixture over the Fritos.

6. Repeat layering with another layer of Fritos and the remaining meat mixture.

7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.

8. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

9. Serve hot with desired toppings. Enjoy!
